  • Our Dojang

The martial arts dojang (dojo, school) where I train,
Oak Mountain Martial Arts, is part of a worldwide organization. And all of us karate-ka trace our martial arts lineage back at least 2,000 years.

It's the lineage, this tradition, on which we base our training and philosophy. The techniques have evolved throughout the years, influenced by political and geographic climates. And the evolution has always been on top of the undercurrent of ancient tradition.

Learn more about the history of karate here.

    Our Association

The Korean style of martial art I train is Tang Soo Do; the global organization is the World Tang Soo Do Association.

Formed in 1982, the Charter Convention of the World Tang Soo Do Association adopted the motto Traditionalism, Professionalism, and Brotherhood. With this motto, and with Grand Master Jae Chul Shin as President and Chairman of the Board, the association continues to expand globally.

From 17 to now over 500 member studios. From 164 charter members to now over 100,000 members.

Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Great Britain, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Germany, Greece, Guam, Korea, India, Italy, Mexico, Mozambique, Netherlands, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Seychelles, Syria, United States of America, Uruguay, and Venzuela. Thirty-six countries total.

All contain schools where like-minded people are practicing this traditional art of Tang Soo Do.
